PETERSHAM MEMORIAL LIBRARY PRESENTS: AUTHOR TALK & WALK
with Mycologist and Writer Lawrence Millman
- 11 a.m. until Noon: Book Reading and Discussion at the Library (23 Common St)
- 2 p.m.: Fungi Foray at the Federated Women’s Club State Forest
- Lawrence Millman is the author of 21 books, including such titles as Fascinating Fungi of New England, At the End of the World, and Goodbye, Ice.
- He’ll be reading from (and talking about) his most recent book: Outsider: My Boyhood With Thoreau. The title refers to the fact that he preferred (and still prefers) the outdoors to the indoors.
- During this Fungi Foray, we’ll be searching for fungi of all kinds, especially small ones, so bring along a hand lens, loupe, or magnifier if you have one. The focus will be on ecology — why a certain fungus is growing in deer poop, for example – and not on edibility, unless the diner happens to be a slug or insect Likewise it will focus on how to identify mushrooms.
